Book Report #1 : Realistic Fiction
The story Ready, Set, Snow! by Abby Klein is about a boy who demonstrated the meaning of sportmanship. Freddie's class competes against another class in the Winter Olympics. Max, the class bully, bets with Freddie that he can beat Freddie in the Snowshoe Race. Freddie accepts the bet even though he never used snowshoes in his whole life! To prepare for the race, he learns how to run with snowshoes from his friends. He keeps falling down but his friends told him to never give up. On the day of the competition, Freddie teaches his classmates the meaning of good sportmanship. When Max falls down during the Snowshoe Race, Freddie helps Max get up. He could have left Max behind and won the bet, but he remembers what his teacher said about being a good teammate. After helping Max, Freddie continues and wins the race. This story shows that good sportmanship is better than any trophy.
